The Forge

The Forge offers a 10,000-square-foot space in a former McMaster Innovation Park garage for entrepreneurs and the many volunteer mentors who guide them. There is always an abundance of visitors, mentors and client guests visiting the space, resulting in lots of opportunity for accidental useful collisions. 

The Forge offers a drop-in workspace, available to all Forge clients, as well as meeting rooms – built with soundproof walls, televisions for presenting, whiteboards and more – a presentation space, and a Makerspace with all the tools you need to be creative, launch a prototype and get your hands dirty – from 3D printing to laser cutting.

The Clinic

Located on the lower level of the Health Sciences Library, The Clinic’s 3,000 square-foot innovation hub equips emerging health inventors with education, resources and support to move innovations forward.  

The Clinic includes a central collision space well-equipped for innovators to make themselves at home and connect with fellow health entrepreneurs. Breakout rooms and a boardroom are available for private team meetings. Each space is equipped with the latest technology to facilitate information sharing. The Clinic is powered by a leading automation system to facilitate the use of lighting, projectors, screens and video conferencing hardware from a touch screen.

McMaster Innovation Park (MIP)

McMaster Innovation Park (MIP) is Canada’s premier research and innovation park supporting startups, business and research. MIP offers collaborative space to transform ideas from vision to commercial reality. Its mission is to help companies grow. 

The MIP atrium is where the action is, with 70+ businesses and more than 186,000-square-feet of office and lab space. This is also where you can find Conferences@MIP – which has a variety of meeting rooms, modular conference rooms, and flexible spaces to cater to all of your event needs – as well as Fitness@MIP and MIP’s administration office.

FlexLabs

FlexLabs is a commercialization space that gives researchers access to state-of-the art, fully equipped facilities to help them advance their startups.

Located at McMaster Innovation Park, FlexLabs consists of five small wet labs, each with its own office. These labs are available for rent on a short-term basis (maximum three years) to startups founded by the McMaster community at a highly discounted rate. 

Thode Makerspace

Located on the lower level of the Thode Library, the Thode Makerspace offers students, faculty and staff from all disciplines a space to learn technical skills, develop new technologies and work collaboratively, while sharing ideas, equipment and knowledge. 

The Makerspace provides access to a variety of high and low-tech tools and technologies as well as hands-on workshops and training for all skill levels. The space offers a range of equipment including 3D printers, a variety of hand tools, components for building electronic circuitry, a drill press, grinders, soldering stations, a laser cutter and even a computer chip setter.

Hatch Centre

Inspired, designed and managed by undergraduate engineering students, the 28,000-square-foot Hatch Centre is an innovation playground for teams, clubs, societies and others to collaborate, inspire and learn from one another. The three-storey space includes a massive bay area for car teams, offices for the McMaster Engineering Society, workspace, board rooms and student support services. 

All Engineering undergraduate students have access to the student workshop, which contains tools and workspace for students to create projects or work on extra-curricular activities. Students in a club/group/team that is affiliated with the McMaster Engineering Society can access the build space, with garage bays for large-scale and long-term projects.

McLean Centre for Collaborative Discovery

The McLean Centre for Collaborative Discovery is a new 10-storey, 190,000-square-foot expansion of the existing DeGroote School of Business. Expected to be complete in 2024, this state-of-the-art learning environment will facilitate interactive, interdisciplinary teaching and learning, and will be a premiere destination for students to discover, learn and collaborate.  

Several floors will have learning hubs or labs that are organized spaces for students, faculty members and business partners to collaborate on solutions for the challenges facing the world of business in the 21st century.
